Britt ‘not interested in funding pensions for the Ukrainian government’

Speaking to Dana Perino on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” this morning, U.S. Sen. Katie Britt said she doesn’t support using American taxpayer money to fund Ukrainian pensions.

The supplemental request submitted by President Joe Biden to Congress would send $11.8 billion to Ukraine for non-war purposes, including the backstopping of the Ukrainian public pension system. Britt’s interview took place minutes before a scheduled hearing of the Senate Appropriations Committee regarding the supplemental request.

“I’m not interested in funding pensions for the Ukrainian government,” Britt (R-Montgomery) said. “There are a lot of things where we believe that our NATO allies and others in Europe can step up and do more on the humanitarian front.”

Affirming that “stopping Putin dead in his tracks is exactly what we need because an emboldened Russia is an emboldened China and Iran,” Britt said the United States needs to be focused on modernizing and strengthening our own defense industrial base in order to achieve peace through strength.

Britt reiterated her unequivocal support for Israel.

“We want to make sure we get Israel everything that she needs to defend herself as quickly and as unified as possible,” she said. “Supporting Israel, standing with them, is something that we’re doing in a bipartisan fashion.”
