Bolin qualifies for Jefferson County Commission race

Former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Mike Bolin has qualified to run in the special election for Jefferson County Commission, his campaign announced.

The commission seat became vacant June 1 after former Commissioner Steve Ammons resigned to become CEO of the Birmingham Business Alliance.

Bolin has raised more than $30,000 since announcing his candidacy in late May, according to the campaign.

To qualify for the election, Bolin submitted more than 100 signatures to the Jefferson County Probate Court. The majority of his district (44%) is in Vestavia Hills, while the remaining portion of District 5 includes Homewood, Hoover, Mountain Brook, and Leeds.

Bolin served as Jefferson County probate judge from 1988-2004 and on the Alabama Supreme Court for 18 years.

The special election is July 18 and the deadline to qualify is Tuesday.
