Bobby Singleton: ‘The Democratic Party is back!’ – Singleton team takes over Alabama Democrats’ channels

It looks like the rabbit’s got the gun. And by gun we mean the passwords to the Alabama Democratic Party’s social media accounts. As always, the rabbit is Bobby Singleton.

Newly-installed Chairman of the party, and longtime State Senator, Singleton (D-Greensboro), posted a video message standing alongside most members of the Democrats’ 2026 statewide ticket.

“Winning team, baby. Winning team,” Singleton said in a video posted to the Alabama Democratic Party’s Facebook page.

“The Democratic Party is back, and we’re here to win!”

Singleton, the Senate minority leader since 2019, took the chairmanship Aug. 8 at the State Democratic Executive Committee’s organizational meeting in Montgomery, routing incumbent chairman Randy Kelley 165-62.

Kelley, a Huntsville minister, was the handpicked chairman of Joe Reed, the Alabama Democratic Conference boss and party vice chair for minority affairs who has run Alabama Democrats from the back room for decades. Kelley’s four years were a brief second act for the Reed regime, following the long reign that ran on paper through Nancy Worley and in practice through Reed himself.

England put Jones’ 2017 campaign machine in charge of the party in 2020. Jones lost to Tuberville by 20 points that November, and England closed the year claiming $6.86 million raised. Reed and Kelley spent their four years losing to the DNC: Kelley’s lawsuit over the 2019 reforms was dismissed, his rewritten bylaws were thrown out, and last year the national party unseated all three of Alabama’s DNC members, Reed’s own son included.

This cycle, Alabama Democrats are fielding a full slate of challengers to far-and-beyond frontrunners. The ticket is headed by Jones, whom Tuberville beat by 20 points in 2020, and includes Ron Sparks, the party’s 2010 nominee for governor, trying to get his old job as agriculture commissioner back.

Most of Democrats’ attempts at victory have been waged in the courtroom thus far, including lawsuits challenging U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville and former Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl’s legal residency to be able to qualify for the ballot.

The general election will be held November 3, 2026 – now 56 days away.
