Rumors & Rumblings

“Rumors and Rumblings” is a weekly feature that runs each Wednesday. It includes short nuggets of information that we glean from conversations throughout the week. Have a tip? Send it here.

1. If Twinkle Cavanaugh wins the Public Service Commission President’s race, her current seat on the Commission will have to be filled by a Gov. Bentley appointee. There has been a lot of jockeying going on behind-the-scenes for that slot. Names being mentioned include Reps. Jeremy Oden and Blaine Galliher, and more recently, Senator Scott Beason.

2. House District 50 Representative Jim McClendon (R-Springville) has been eyeing a run at the Senate District 11 seat currently being held by Democrat Senator Jerry Fielding, but has not decided for certain that he is going to run. As we mentioned a couple of weeks ago, Senator fielding is likely switching parties to become a Republican, but his switch could potentially face a challenge before the candidate committee. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

3. Former Alabama Attorney General Troy King is rumored to be leaving his current firm and starting a new one with the assistance of a lobbyist.
