BCBS Medicare Advantage plan receives high quality rating from CMS

A Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan offered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama (BCBS) has been given a four-star quality rating by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). It is the only statewide plan with no premium offered in Alabama to receive such a rating.

Blue Advantage Premier PPO Plan, the official name of the BCBS plan that received the high-quality rating, was examined by CMS across several relevant categories with the best possible experience for the patient being top of mind. CMS ratings are given on a one through a five-star scale.

CMS is an agency under the umbrella of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It oversees Medicare and coordinates Medicaid at the federal level.

Dr. Dow Briggs, executive vice president at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, said in a release, “It is an honor to receive this recognition. Our company remains focused on consistently providing our members across the state access to quality healthcare at the most affordable price.”

“We are thankful to our provider partners for taking care of our members. We care about our members’ health and want to provide them an excellent customer experience and the best possible health outcomes,” he concluded.
