U.S. Rep. Barry Moore signed onto a letter from fellow U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Florida) calling for a statue of conservative political activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk to be placed in the U.S. Capitol building following his Wednesday afternoon assassination in Utah.
“To honor his legacy, we call upon you to direct that a statue of Charlie Kirk be placed in the United States Capitol,” the letter, addressed to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), reads.
“This is not a symbolic gesture, but a permanent testament to his life’s work, his courage, and his sacrifice. It will stand as a reminder that political disagreement must never be answered with violence, and that the fight for truth must carry on.”
Moore (R-Enterprise), one of 16 members of Congress to sign the request, expressed his sorrow in a social media post following Kirk’s murder.
“Charlie Kirk was a tireless voice for freedom,” Moore told Yellowhammer News.
“He dedicated his life to sharing the love of Christ with others and building the next generation of conservatives. His impact on our movement and on the future of this nation is undeniable.”
“A statue of Charlie Kirk in the United States Capitol would be a fitting way to honor his legacy and remind generations to come of his unwavering commitment to liberty,” Moore said.
Vice President JD Vance, along with Second Lady Usha Vance, flew to Utah on Thursday afternoon to return Kirk’s remains to his home state of Arizona via Air Force Two.
Shortly afterward, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) announced plans to introduce a resolution allowing for Kirk’s body to lie in honor in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.
