Barry Moore returns to campaign trail after week of meetings in Washington

Republican nominee for Alabama’s Second Congressional District Barry Moore is returning to the campaign trail after a week of meetings in Washington, D.C. that he described as “successful.”

Moore surprised many political observers across Alabama by decisively winning his primary runoff election on July 14 after placing more than 15 points behind competitor Jeff Coleman in the initial March 3 primary.

His campaign reports that he met recently met with “Reps. Robert Aderholt (R-AL-4) and Mo Brooks (R-AL-5), House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), House Minority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) of the House Freedom Caucus, and NRCC Chairman Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN)” during a five-day trip to the nation’s capital.

“I took this trip to start building the relationships that are so important in getting things done in Washington. It was hectic, but I think it was a good trip,” Moore said in a statement on Monday.

Before last week’s trip to D.C., Moore had a congratulatory phone call with Vice President Mike Pence and was praised by Donald Trump, Jr. for his staunch support of President Donald Trump.

The candidate recently credited his “grassroots team” and “service mode” efforts amidst the coronavirus pandemic with his primary victory.

“One thing we all agree on is just how important it is to reelect President Trump and elect as many Republicans to the Congress as we can,” said Moore about the collection of GOP leaders he met with last week.

Moore’s team says he will return to the nation’s capital in September to continue laying the groundwork to serve successfully should he be elected.

Alabama’s Second District is one of the most conservative in the nation, and Moore is a heavy favorite over Democratic nominee Phyllis Harvey-Hall.

“We’re going to be campaigning hard these next three months to carry District 2, and all of Alabama, for our strong, conservative Republican candidates up and down the ballot,” commented Moore.
