Study affirms what Auburn alums already know: AU is one of America’s ‘most fun’ colleges

Students go to college to further their education and learn skills that will help them succeed in life, but no one expects college students to study every waking moment of their day (except maybe their professors). It’s important to have fun in college too. Business Insider studied a number of colleges to determine the top 30 schools that know how to have the most fun, and Auburn University made their list.

Auburn came in at number 27 on Business Insider’s list. Here’s their reasons why Auburn knows how to have fun:

The home football games for Auburn are packed with students shouting “War Eagle,” the school’s battle cry. It’s especially loud when the Iron Bowl — the school’s annual matchup against top rival University of Alabama — is played at home in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Before every game, hundreds of students come out to the school’s huge tailgates, which are loaded with games, food, and — of course — beer.

Auburn is one of five SEC schools to make Business Insider’s list. Of those five, Auburn landed in the lowest position, and Vanderbilt University is the most fun SEC school. The other four schools are The University of Florida (26), University of Mississippi (22), University of Georgia (21) and Vanderbilt University (14).

The “most fun” university according to Business Insider is the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

To make their ranking, Business Insider used data from the Princeton Review’s 2016 rankings, and specifically looked at categories that showed schools with strong social life like “Happiest Students,” “Quality of Life,” “Party Schools,” and “Lots of Beer.” Most of the schools on their list have a strong Greek system and competitive athletics.

Auburn’s status as one of the “most fun” colleges is another accolade to add to its ever-growing collection of rankings. Earlier this year, Forbes named Auburn the best university in Alabama and SEC fans voted Jordan-Hare as the best in-stadium experience. Last year the school was the only Alabama university included in the Princeton Review’s guide to green colleges.

But while Auburn knows how to have fun, it is also home to some of the best undergraduate and graduate programs in the country. Twelve of Auburn’s graduate programs – including the Harrison School of Pharmacy, the College of Education’s Rehabilitation Counseling Program, and a number of engineering programs – have been included in the top 50 graduate schools by the U.S. News and World Report. Undergraduate programs in engineering and business have also been listed among the best in the country.
