The Southeastern Conference is known first and foremost for its prowess on the gridiron and has been the gold standard in college football for as long as can be remembered, both from a talent and championship standpoint.
But, during what was obviously a down year for the conference overall without the usual elite team or two that pushes for a titles, the SEC may just be as strong as its ever been on the basketball court as conference play just starts to get going. With the release of the new AP Poll this week, both Auburn and Alabama are within the top five and the conference has six representatives within the top-ten alone.

Auburn comes in ranked at No. 2 in the country behind just Tennessee at No. 1 while Alabama sits at No. 5. Rounding out the top-ten in the SEC is Kentucky at No. 6, Florida at No. 8, and Texas A&M at No. 10.
Also within the top-15 is Mississippi State at No. 14 while Oklahoma is ranked No. 17 and Ole Miss is No. 23.
With a ridiculous NINE ranked teams, the league is as deep and competitive as its ever been, and it’s only just getting started. It would not be a surprise to see numerous SEC teams make a run by the time March rolls around.
