Terry Craig, a candidate in the upcoming Andalusia mayoral election, claims he was the victim of ‘targeted’ gunfire while walking his dog near his home one late Friday night.
According to local news reports, the incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on July 18 on South Cotton Street where Craig resides. Craig told authorities and the media that a dark SUV pulled up near his home and fired two shots in his direction.
Craig said one of the bullets came within four to six inches of his face. “I think this was a targeted attack,” Craig told WAKA.
The Andalusia Police Department confirmed they responded to a call that night and stated that no injuries or property damage were found at the scene.
Craig is one of three candidates in the race for mayor, challenging longtime incumbent Earl Johnson. Don Cotton is also on the ballot. The city election is scheduled for August.
Authorities have not confirmed any suspects or motives as of yet.
