Minton announces candidacy for Alabama Senate District 10, challenging incumbent Andrew Jones

Amy Dozier Minton of Rainbow City has officially entered the race for Alabama Senate District 10, launching a campaign focused on conservative values, infrastructure, education, and veterans’ support. She will challenge incumbent Senator Andrew Jones in the 2026 Republican primary.

A longtime Etowah County resident, Minton highlighted her professional background in healthcare and education, along with her leadership roles within the Republican Party. She and her husband, Dr. Maury Minton, have lived in Rainbow City for decades, raising their two children there.

While working at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Minton completed her master’s degree and later worked in pharmaceutical sales with Bristol-Myers Squibb. She paused her sales career while her husband was in medical school to support her children and their school community, volunteering at Eura Brown Elementary School in Gadsden.

“Much of my time was spent assisting children learning to read, which continues to be a passion of mine,” she said. “I attribute our daughter Dr. Laura Minton Garton becoming a medical doctor at Mayo Hospital and our son David Minton becoming a software engineer with Trideum Aerospace Corporation in large part to the teachers, librarians, and coaches who fostered a love of reading and a hard work ethic.”

Minton currently serves as Vice Chair of the Etowah County Republican Party and represents Congressional Seat 7 of District 10 on the Alabama State Executive Republican Committee. She is also a member of the Etowah County Library Board and was appointed by Governor Kay Ivey to the Alabama Public Library Services (APLS) Board.

Her campaign centers on ten legislative priorities:

  1. Standing for small businesses, farmers, private property owners, and citizens against overregulation, excessive taxation, and government overreach.

  2. Working with local leaders to fund repairs to roads, bridges, and infrastructure—including prioritizing a new Southside Bridge—and promoting industrial job growth with transparency and communication.

  3. Supporting parents, teachers, and schools, with a focus on improving district reading scores.

  4. Opposing the sale of Alabama land to foreign adversaries, citing USDA data showing Alabama ranks fourth nationally in foreign-owned land.

  5. Voting against gambling and opposing any expansion of it in the state.

  6. Defending Second Amendment rights, referencing her own experience confronting a home intruder while living in Birmingham.

  7. Supporting military families and advocating for veterans’ benefits, particularly mental health services.

  8. Backing churches and faith-based addiction recovery groups, including organizations like Celebrate Recovery and Maximizing Mental Health.

  9. Promoting vocational education and advocating for trade skill programs and continued growth at Gadsden State Community College.

  10. Opposing gender ideology and what she describes as the indoctrination of children.

Minton cited her Christian faith and her family’s long history of military service, small business, and agricultural work for shaping her values.

“Freedom isn’t free, and I understand that the war doesn’t end when you return from the battlefield,” she said.
