The chairman of the Alabama Republican Party criticized a report claiming that Alabama is one of the worst states to live and work.
Last week, CNBC released its “10 worst states to live and work in for 2023,” in which the Yellowhammer State was tied with South Carolina for fourth place.
ALGOP Chairman John Wahl reacted to the survey on WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program.”
“We’d probably all agree with them if you look at this from a communist socialist perspective,” Wahl said.
CNBC said Alabama is unhealthy, makes it hard to vote, doesn’t have enough protections for workers, and scores poorly when it comes to inclusiveness.
“One of the things I deal with on the national level as chairman on Alabama, there’s like an immediate stereotype,” Wahl said. “You say you’re from Alabama and you’re a Republican and it’s like instantly people think you must be a horrible person. That combination is very bad and I think it’s really sad we have this stereotype.”
The authors of the report said they based they findings by measuring “quality of life issues including crime, health care, childcare and health care, as well as inclusive policies on discrimination and reproductive rights.”
Wahl said those reporting in the mainstream media just have a different worldview than most of the people in his state.
“They don’t share the same American values as the people of Alabama,” he said. “When you think about what Alabama represents, it’s kind of a core value that made America great. Ideas like limited government, protecting our children from woke policies, defending the family unit, being that kind of tradition conservative model that families have been for thousands of years, and kind of just this common sense approach of ‘we like our country, we like the American dream, and we want to keep America the way it was, and we’re not just going to bow down to this idea that the socialist agenda is good.'”
In the report, Texas ranks at the top of the list, while Florida is 10th.
Wahl said he takes the findings of that report as a badge of honor.
“My only question is-why are we only fourth?”
