The Alabama State Employees Association announced a new executive director on Wednesday. Cameron Espy, who has been with the association for twenty-two years, was named to the position after a unanimous vote by the organization’s Board of Directors. She most recently served as the assistant director of the ASEA.

Espy will officially be taking over for current executive director Mac McArthur effective November 1, 2024. McArthur has served in the position for twenty-six years.

“I am thrilled to represent active and retired state employees,” said Espy. “I intend to continue to build upon Mac McArthur’s vision for ASEA and lead the association to its next chapter. My goal will continue to be to promote and protect active and retired state employees at the Alabama Legislature, across state government, and throughout the State of Alabama.”

McArthur praised Espy’s record with the organization.

“What makes her the perfect Executive Director is she truly cares about the member,” said McArthur. “Cameron is committed to continuing great member service through ASEA’s lawyers and Field Staff Representatives, seeing member benefits remain second to none, having your voice be heard at the Alabama Legislature, with the Governor, and in your departments.”

“Cameron has the most essential quality to be a great Executive Director of ASEA because she understands the heart of our member. As Executive Director she will continue to bring that heart, fight and that never quit attitude for our members every single day.”

During her time with the organization, Espy has handled marketing, public relations, and events for ASEA.
