When visitors from across the country and around the world gather on the National Mall to celebrate America’s 250th birthday this summer, Alabama will be ready to tell its story.
Through exhibits highlighting the state’s agricultural heritage, aerospace and defense industries, civil rights history, and musical legacy, the Alabama Pavilion will showcase the industries, achievements, and defining moments that have helped shape both the state and the nation.
Alabama is one of 56 states and territories participating in the Great American State Fair, an exposition on the National Mall that is part of the nation’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Gov. Kay Ivey announced the state’s participation last week.
The fair runs June 25 through July 10 and celebrates the people, landscapes, and traditions that define each state while emphasizing a shared American identity. Admission is free, although advance registration is encouraged.
Visitors to the Alabama Pavilion will find displays featuring agricultural products, aerospace and defense exhibits, tributes to the civil rights movement and a soundtrack celebrating the state’s musical legacy. The exhibits also highlight Alabama’s contributions to the nation’s economy through industries such as agriculture and aerospace. The pavilion includes interactive photo opportunities, Alabama-themed giveaways and a larger-than-life cutout of Gov. Kay Ivey.
“Alabama is proud to be a part of America’s 250th birthday celebration in our nation’s capital,” said Gov. Kay Ivey. “People from all over the world will be able to witness our state’s diverse strengths and rich history. From agricultural heritage to pivotal moments in the civil rights movement, Alabama has redefined liberty and equality in America. Our pavilion invites visitors to experience the notable people and milestones that have shaped our state and our nation, and I am grateful to President Trump for inviting the states to be part of the Great American State Fair.”
The Great American State Fair is one of several events organized by Freedom 250 to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary. The Alabama Pavilion will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday throughout the event.
