Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox has been elected as the chair of the newly-formed SEC Mayors Alliance.
The alliance was launched recently during the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas — and now, Alabama has taken home another conference title — as Maddox was elected to lead the new group as chairman.
The alliance will focus on public safety, relationships with local universities and economic development to allow college towns throughout the conference to flourish to their fullest capabilities.
“I look forward to the positive impact that this group will have on our communities moving forward,” Maddox said in a statement. “I am proud and honored to work alongside my colleagues in this capacity.”
Additional details of action the alliance will be taking or who else is involved are unclear, however Maddox is going to be heading up the operation alongside Oxford, MS’s Mayor Robyn Tannehill, who is serving as the vice chair.
