Alabama Republicans headed to Georgia for Herschel Walker’s U.S. Senate bid

The Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) will soon deploy grassroots teams to assist the campaign of Georgia U.S. Senate nominee Herschel Walker (R).

The Mighty Alabama Strike force, a campaign arm of ALGOP that routinely helps out-of-state Republican candidates in tight races, will embark on three separate door-knocking campaigns for the former Heisman Trophy Winner.

Shelby County GOP chairman Joan Reynolds, who serves as director of the Mighty Alabama Strike Force, advised that Georgia’s Senate seat could possibly determine which party controls the upper chamber of Congress next year.

“This seat is pivotal if we are going to regain the majority in the U.S. Senate this November. That’s our whole goal – to take back the House and Senate for the Republican Party as part of our Restore America campaign,” said Reynolds in a news release.

ALGOP’s volunteers will travel to Gainesville from Oct. 2-7; Columbus from Oct. 16-21; and Savannah Oct. 30 through Nov. 4. Volunteers’ lodging and travel expenses will be covered by the Mighty Alabama Strike Force, according to ALGOP.

“Herschel is very respected in the state – well known and well liked – and has a very good chance to take this seat,” said Reynolds. “We are excited to have this opportunity to help his campaign in the final weeks of the election cycle.”

Walker, who was featured as a guest speaker at the 2022 ALGOP summer dinner, will face progressive U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) in the Nov. 8 general election. The race is currently considered a toss-up, according to recent polling.

The Peach State elected Warnock and U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) in 2020, as Democrats took control of Georgia’s two Senate seats that were held by Republicans prior to the November general election.

ALGOP’s campaign arm has traveled to various parts of the United States to help multiple candidates in recent years. Most recently, the Alabama Republicans helped then-Virginia gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin in his upset victory over former Gov. Terry McAuliffe in 2021.

The group also assisted with the grassroots operations of former President Donald Trump’s 2016 and 2020 campaigns in Florida, resulting in Trump carrying the Sunshine State in both elections.

The Mighty Alabama Strike Force will also work to help various in-state Republican candidates this election cycle, according to ALGOP.
