Alabama Republican Party releases 2025 state legislative agenda: ‘It’s time to put people first again’

The Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) released its 2025 state legislative agenda on Monday, one day before the beginning of this year’s state legislative session.

It includes cutting taxes for Alabama families, defending parental rights, and pushing back against woke policies that threaten the American Dream.

“The Alabama Republican Party firmly believes that government’s first priority should be serving the people it represents,” ALGOP Chairman John Wahl said.

“We are committed to supporting policies that help those in need, safeguard American values, and defend the fundamental rights of each and every single individual. As we look ahead to this legislative session, our goal is to build on the foundation laid by the State Legislature in recent years—work that has protected children from radical woke policies, provided financial relief to struggling families by cutting the grocery tax, and defended constitutional freedoms. The Alabama Republican Party will not back down and we will not surrender as we fight for good government.”

According to the document, the first priority this session is “Expanding Economic Opportunity” by eliminating Alabama’s business personal property tax, setting free-market policy standards for cryptocurrency, and Beginning the reduction of the state income tax.

The second priority is “Protecting Children and Preserving Parental Rights,” by banning transgender indoctrination in public schools, ensuring girls have access to private spaces, including bathrooms and locker rooms, giving parents full control over opting their children in or out of sex education, and preventing teachers from being forced to use gender pronouns.

The third priority is “Securing the Border and Keeping Alabama Safe,” by identifying and deporting criminal illegal immigrants, cracking down on human trafficking, allocating guaranteed funding for District Attorney offices.

The fourth priority listed is “Defending Individual Liberties,” which they hope to accomplish by passing “Right to Try 2.0” legislation to expand medical treatment options for patients, banning red-flag laws that threaten Second Amendment rights, prohibiting restrictions on the use of cash, recognizing the importance of religious liberty and defending the right to personal conviction.

The fifth priority on the releases is “Ensuring Election Integrity,” by establishing a hand count post-election audit, reforming the absentee voting process, and implementing party registration for primary elections.

The sixth priority states is “Strengthening Families,” which they hope to do by raising the age of medical consent, passing the DHR Transparency and Integrity Act, and granting pregnancy resource centers tax-credit status.

The seventh and final priority listed is “Opposing Radical Leftist Policies,” which includes defining womanhood under state law and protecting women’s right to private spaces, preventing Alabama businesses and citizens from being discriminated against due to religious or political beliefs, banning taxpayer funds from being allocated to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs, and recognizing gold and silver as legal currency.

“The Republican Party wants to see Alabama leading the nation in common sense policies that defend the people and their fundamental rights. It’s time to put people first again. That’s our goal this legislative session,” Wahl concluded.
