The Alabama Power Foundation has announced four upcoming grant cycles designed to support teachers, students, and schools across the state. Applications are now open for three programs — Champion, Scholar, and Field Trip grants — and will remain open through Sept. 5. A fourth program, the Classroom Grant, will begin accepting applications Sept. 15–26.
Champion Grants provide up to $5,000 to high school teachers in grades 9–11 for professional development, instructional resources, or classroom technology. The goal is to help prepare students to be college and career ready in math and science. Priority will be given to Title I schools and those where at least half of students receive free or reduced-price lunches.
Field Trip Grants, offering up to $2,500, help cover the costs of educational outings for students in grades K–12. Eligible trips include visits to historical sites, STEM-focused museums, and nature preserves. Applications will be judged on their educational purpose, accessibility, and long-term benefits for students.
Scholar Grants provide up to $5,000 to grade-level teams of teachers in grades 2–8 for training and resources to improve student achievement in math and English language arts. As with the Champion Grants, priority goes to schools with significant financial need.
Classroom Grants, which open later in September, award up to $1,000 for classroom materials and resources. Schools and nonprofits that partner with local systems may apply, with preference given to Title I schools or those where half of students qualify for free or reduced meals.
The grants help offset the out-of-pocket costs teachers often face when purchasing classroom supplies. Last year, Leeds Primary School received a Classroom Grant for a project that provided STEM materials to improve handwriting and critical thinking.
Applications and additional information for all four programs are available on the Alabama Power Foundation’s website.
