Governor Kay Ivey announced Friday that 125 additional soldiers from Alabama will deploy to the southern border to assist with Customs and Border Patrol operations.
Those being deployed are part of the 152nd Military Police Company headquartered in Hartselle, Alabama. Their mission duration is approximately 400 days.
“Over the last four years, securing the Southern Border has not been a priority for the Biden-Harris Administration, creating devastating consequences for every state. Let me assure you Alabama will continue doing all we can to support the mission of securing our Border,” said Ivey. “These 125 Alabama soldiers will support Customs and Border Protection operations, and I thank them, as well as their families, for their tremendous service to our country.”

After Ivey’s announcement, U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) said Vice President Kamala Harris is responsible for chaos at the border and that Alabamians are stepping up.

U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) also praised the Alabama National Guard, saying, “I applaud Governor Kay Ivey for taking this action. And I thank the members of our National Guard for their willingness to serve. The Biden-Harris Administration has supported an open border since literally DAY ONE, when they rolled back Trump policies that were working.”
Currently, there are 269 soldiers from Alabama stationed at the Southern Border. They are from the 226th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade headquartered in Mobile and the 158th Surface Maintenance Company out of Tallassee.
The governor’s office said that the two companies are now returning home from the mission in phases. During her time in office, Ivey has overseen the deployment of over 500 Alabama National Guard soldiers, as well as equipment to the U.S.-Mexico border.
