Alabama House Republicans announce ‘Leadership That Works’ platform for 2024 session

Ahead of the 2024 state legislative session commencing on Tuesday, the majority caucuses of both the House and Senate are releasing their platform and policy priorities.

The Alabama House Republican Caucus announced its platform, “Leadership That Works!”

According to the Caucus, House GOP members unanimously agreed to prioritize during the 2024 regular legislative session.

“Since Republicans have taken control of the Legislature, Alabama’s economy is historically strong, we are a national leader in job recruitment and economic development, public schools are being funded at record levels, and the conservative values that so many of us embrace are reflected in the policies we pass,” House Majority Leader Scott Stadthagen said.

“Evidence across the board proves conclusively that Republican leadership is leadership that works, and these priorities will ensure that fact remains true for years to come.”

The list of legislative priorities was compiled by the House Republican Caucus Platform Committee, which was appointed by Stadthagen and chaired by State Rep. Randall Shedd (R-Fairview). The members of the House Republican supermajority unanimously ratified the platform during its winter retreat.

“These issues represent the conservative beliefs, principles, and ideals that our Republican House members were elected by their constituents to represent, propose, and pass,” Shedd said,  “We are united in our confidence that promoting these priorities throughout the 2024 regular session will make an already great state even better.”

The issues highlighted in the House Republican Caucus “Leadership That Works! – A Bold Conservative Plan for Alabama’s Future” platform include:

  • Ensuring Honest Elections in Alabama
  • Providing A Quality Education for Every Alabama Child
  • Strengthening and Continuing Alabama’s Historic Economy
  • Keeping Alabama the Most Military Friendly State in the Nation
  • Preserving Alabama’s Public Safety and Creating Safer Communities
  • Promoting and Prioritizing “Made in Alabama” Products
  • Protecting Our Children From Harm
  • Streamlining State Government and Demanding Fiscal Accountability

Legislation reflecting each of the platform topics will be sponsored, introduced, and carried by House Republicans throughout the session, the Caucus says.

“Chairman Shedd and the members of the platform committee deserve special recognition for the hard work, time, and travel that they devoted to creating the ‘Leadership That Works!’ agenda,” Stadthagen said.

“Our Republican members of the Alabama House are among the most dedicated public servants you will find anywhere in the nation, and the citizens of Alabama are fortunate to have such selfless men and women representing them in Montgomery.”
