(Video Above: The Alabama Free Market Alliance explains the true cost of regulations)
The Alabama Free Market Alliance released a video over the weekend describing what they say are the true costs of government regulations.
Here are a few highlights from the video:
– Regulations cost Americans $2 trillion every year, more than the GDP of many countries.
– There are currently around 1 million government regulations on the books.
– Approximately 1 new regulation is created every two hours in the United States by unelected bureaucrats
– The EPA’s new mercury rules for power plants will only reduce overall mercury emissions by 0.3 percent, but will cost consumers nearly $10 billion annually.
– The EPA’s new water rules could require farmers to procure federal permits just to farm their land, and place nearly every drop of water in the United States under the purview of the bureaucracy.
“Taxation by regulation,” the video concludes, “is taxation without representation.”
In 2013, Yellowhammer named AFMA one of its top 5 conservative groups in the state.
AFMA Chairman Paul Reynolds is also Alabama’s National Committeeman on the Republican National Committee.
Back here at home, Reynold’s group fills a void for Alabama conservatives looking for content online, especially on Facebook where the group has over 13,000 “likes” and posts a steady stream of infographics and articles.
Article titles that will give you a sense of what to expect from AFMA include, “ObamaCare regulations are 8 times longer than the Bible,” “Attention Alabama AARP: stop pushing Obama’s environmental agenda,” and “Stop promoting ObamaCare in Alabama’s schools.”
AFMA publishes a “Watch List,” that is somewhat of a counter to the Southern Poverty Law Center’s “Hate list.” Groups who made the AFMA Watch List include the Southern Environmental Law Center, the Alabama Association for Justice, Alabama Arise and the Alabama Environmental Council.
In 2015, former State Senator Scott Beason joined AFMA as senior policy advisor.
This year AFMA launched a petition at BentleyTaxHike.com calling on Alabamians to hold Governor Bentley accountable to the “no new taxes” promises he made during the 2014 campaign.
