Alabama celebrates truckers during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week will honor the 3.5 million professional truck drivers across the country from September 15-21. The week is meant to recognize and honor individuals in the trucking industry for their invaluable efforts in keeping the nation’s supply chain functioning.

The Alabama Trucking Association is highlighting the dedication, skill, and perseverance of those professionals.

“From coast to coast, NTDAW serves as an important reminder to thank all professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment to undertaking one of our economy’s most demanding and important jobs,” ATA announced. “These professionals not only deliver our goods safely, securely, and on time, but they also keep our highways safe.”

Governor Kay Ivey and ATA Board Chairman Joe Black emphasized the importance of trucking for the Yellowhammer State.

“Over 85% of our communities depend exclusively on trucks to move our goods,” said Ivey in a video message set to be released during NTDAW. “Whether we’re talking about fresh produce, everyday items, or our made-in-Alabama goods, truckers ensure we have what we need when we need it. That’s why I have proclaimed this week as National Truck Appreciation Week in the great state of Alabama.”

Ivey encouraged Alabamians interested in entering the trucking industry to visit the ATA’s new workforce training website, MyTruckingFuture.com, which offers valuable resources and information about the diverse career paths available in trucking.

81% of Alabama’s manufactured goods are transported by truck and one in every thirteen jobs in Alabama is connected to trucking companies further showcasing the industry’s indispensable role in the state’s economy and the overall well-being of its citizens.

Truck drivers are the backbone of our economy,” Black said. “Their consistency and commitment to excellence inspire me and everyone else working in this industry.”

“They are true American heroes who deserve to be honored and appreciated every single day of the year.”
