Alabama Captive Insurance Association to host in-person conference September 16-18 in Birmingham

The Alabama Captive Insurance Association (ACIA) is forging ahead with plans to host its annual in-person conference on September 16-18 in Birmingham.

A release this week outlined some of the heightened health and safety protocols that will be implemented for the conference, which will be held at the Westin and its adjoining Sheraton conference facilities.

“We understand the concern surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and are collaborating with our event venue to successfully ensure a safe environment during the 2020 Conference in accordance with COVID-19 safety guidelines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),” stated Norman Chandler, president of ACIA.

Announced safety measures will reportedly include:

  • Providing masks with filters to all attendees each day of the conference
  • Setting up all meeting spaces with social distancing guidelines
  • Providing hand sanitizer to all attendees with additional sanitizer stations set up throughout the venue
  • Utilizing hotel staff for contact-free distribution of all food and beverages (there will be no buffet-style options)
  • Implementing a “no touch” conference greeting

For the first time, the ACIA conference will promote student engagement by incorporating relevant sessions and networking opportunities, including a new internship program.

“With the launch of the Association’s Risky Business Internship Program, we are excited to provide Risk Management and Insurance students with educational resources and networking opportunities to recruit the next generation of professionals into the Risk Management and Insurance Industry,” said Justin Law, managing director of the program.

The conference, themed the “Roaring 20s: The Future of the Captive Industry,” will further provide members of the captive insurance industry with Continuing Education sessions and industry networking and updates. Insurance professionals, captive owners and insurance agents from around the nation will gather to address pressing topics and the future of the industry.

“This year’s conference will be unlike any conference we’ve had in the past,” Chandler added. “With innovative networking and recruiting opportunities, new industry-driving session topics, and unique social events, the 2020 annual conference will set the precedent for our future conferences moving forward.”
