BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The United States is no stranger to cybersecurity attacks. Sony Pictures, Target, Apple iCloud, and most recently, Ashley Madison, are only a few American companies that have faced serious cyberattacks. But on Monday Regions’s Operations Center in Hoover was on full display to show Congressman Gary Palmer (R-AL6) how the Alabama-based bank has invested in cybersecurity to help protect consumers’ information.
During Rep. Palmer’s visit, he met with a team of the bank’s technology experts who explained what Regions and other banks are doing to safeguard their customers’ privacy while also allowing them to have access to their financial services.
“You can have the greatest technology,” said Greg Gagliano, Chief Information Officer at Regions. “But if it doesn’t work, it doesn’t serve people.”
Overall, the bank’s security measures have passed with flying colors. The Region’s Data Center that Palmer toured is a state-of-the-art facility paired with knowledgeable and dedicated professionals, possessing advanced technology used to monitor communications and task tracking, process banking transactions, test new applications, verify technology’s security and productivity, in addition to fighting off security attacks.
The Regions operation team sat down with Rep. Palmer to discuss how each of these areas of intelligence functions, and the importance of Regions and other banks prioritize activating these security measures.
“I feel a lot better from what I learned today about what Regions and others banks are doing to protect customers,” Palmer said. “Not only what they are doing in terms of a financial investment, but in terms of investing in people and technology.”
After touring the facility, Rep. Palmer met with 100 Regions associates to discuss the nation’s current issues. Palmer said he would like to see the U.S. go further in helping prevent cyberattacks by holding other nations accountable.
“We spend billions of dollars to protect ourselves,” Palmer said. “We need to be direct when we negotiate treaties with other countries, particularly those nations that have participated in an economic attack.”
