Alabama Association of Realtors announces runoff election endorsements

The Alabama Realtors Political Action Committee (ARPAC), the political arm of the Alabama Association of Realtors, announced its endorsements of candidates seeking election to statewide and legislative offices on Monday.

Alabama Secretary of State

For the Alabama Secretary of State position, which will be vacated by the term-limited John Merrill, the association has endorsed State Rep. Wes Allen (R-Troy). Allen faces State Auditor Jim Zeigler in the Republican primary runoff contest to determine who will become the state’s chief elections official.

Alabama Public Service Commission (PSC)

The candidacies of incumbent Alabama Public Service Commissioners Jeremy Oden and Chip Beeker have picked up the Alabama Association of Realtors’ endorsement. The incumbent officeholders have opposition for the PSC’s Place 1 and Place 2 seats in Brent Woodall and Robert McCollum, respectively.

Alabama House of Representatives

The association has endorsed incumbent State Rep. Parker Duncan Moore (R-Decatur), who faces Patrick Johnson in the primary runoff election for the Alabama House of Representatives, District 4.

In the GOP primary runoff contest for House District 14, the association has endorsed State Rep. Tim Wadsworth (R-Arley) over challenger Tom Fredricks.

The Alabama Association of Realtors has endorsed State Rep. Rod Scott (D-Fairfield) in his contest against Democratic primary opponent Fred Plump for House District 55.

For House District 56, the seat currently held by outgoing State Rep. Louise Alexander (D-Bessemer), the association has endorsed Ontario Tilman over Tereshia Huffman in the Democratic Party primary runoff election.

Mark Shirey’s bid for House District 100 has picked up the association’s endorsement. Shirey faces Pete Kupfer for the Republican nomination.

Additionally, the National Association of Realtors Political Action Committee has announced its endorsements of candidates seeking federal offices in Alabama.

U.S. Senate

Former Business Council of Alabama CEO Katie Britt holds the association’s support in her bid for the U.S. Senate. Britt and U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) are battling for the seat currently held by retiring U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Tuscaloosa).

U.S. House of Representatives

The association has endorsed Madison County Commission chairman Dale Strong in his candidacy for Alabama’s open fifth congressional district seat. Strong will face off against former Huntsville City Schools superintendent Casey Wardynski for the Tennessee Valley congressional seat.

The primary runoff election will take place on June 21.
