Selection Sunday has come and gone, and Alabama and Auburn have learned their collective fates as we head into the best postseason in sports.
The Tide and Tigers landed 4 seeds and, though Auburn is in the East region and Alabama in the West region, both teams will open in Spokane, Wash., this weekend.
Auburn, who is coming off an SEC Tournament title in Nashville, finds itself in what is on paper the most difficult of the four regions featuring No. 1 overall seed UConn, No. 2 seed Iowa State, No. 3 seed Illinois, and No. 5 seed San Diego State.
Alabama, meanwhile, got a somewhat favorable draw with North Carolina as its No. 1, Arizona as its No. 2, Baylor as its No. 3, and St. Mary’s as No. 5.
Auburn will take on the 13th seeded Ivy League champion Yale and, if it can defeat the Bulldogs, will take on the winner of San Diego State-UAB in the second round.
Alabama will take on 13-seed College of Charleston in the first round and would face the winner of St. Mary’s-Grand Canyon in the Round of 32.
Both teams tip off Friday: Auburn at 3:15 p.m. CST and Alabama at 6:35 p.m. CST.
