Alabama 38, Wisconsin 14: Simpson shreds badgers with 4 touchdowns

(Alabama Athletics)

Alabama rolled past Wisconsin 38–14 in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, closing nonconference play on a high note.

The Crimson Tide head into the bye week with momentum before their trip to Athens in two weeks to face Georgia.

It was a slog early for the offense, but the Tide finally broke through late in the first quarter on a handoff to wide receiver Germie Bernard on 4th and 1 from just outside the two yard-line.

Bernard struck again on the very next possession, catching a nice toss from Ty Simpson and scampering the rest of the way to the end zone for a 43-yard score for Alabama.

Simpson wasn’t done in the first half either, finishing off a very impressive 98-yard with perhaps the best throw he’s made yet, an absolute dart this time to Isaiah Horton on a ball where Horton climbed the ladder and plucked one out of the air for the 13-yard touchdown.

Picking up right where he left off during last week’s historic performance, Simpson finished the first half 13 of 14 for nearly 200 yards with two touchdown passes. The first play of the second half may have been the highlight of the day as Ryan Williams got back in on the fun for the first time this season, outrunning every Badger defender on his way to pay dirt on a trick play for a 75-yard score.

Williams would find the end zone again on another incredible play in which he caught the ball, stopped on a dime and sent every defender in the opposite direction before heading the other way to get home.

Simpson finished the afternoon with potentially his best game yet, completing 24 of his 29 attempts for 382 yards and four touchdowns. Williams on the other hand made a grand return to the field after missing last week with a concussion, catching five passes for 165 yards and the two scores.

Defensively, Bray Hubbard had two interceptions while the team collected four sacks as well.

Alabama will have next week off before the first real measuring stick of where they are at after the Florida State disaster here in two weeks against Georgia.
