Two major companies in the air transportation business have partnered to grow the industry, not just in the United States but south of the border as well.
Airbus’ production facility in Mobile recently delivered an A320neo to Volaris, a Mexico-based low-cost airline, Airbus announced.
Volaris is the first non-U.S.-based airline to take delivery of an aircraft produced at the Mobile factory.
Volaris has only flown Airbus aircraft since it started operatons in 2006. In 2017, the
airline placed and order for 80 A320neo family aircraft – the largest firm order in Mexican history. The company has ordered more than 200 A320 Family aircraft.
Mobile is home to Airbus’ first U.S.-based commercial aircraft manufacturing facility, opening in 2015.
Growing from an initial workforce of around 250 producing A320 Family aircraft, the facility employs more than 1,600 people and produces the A320 and A220 Family aircraft. To date, more than 385 aircraft have been delivered to 13 customers.
