Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth has announced his endorsement of Republican Court of Criminal Appeals Judge Chris McCool’s candidacy for the Alabama Supreme Court.

“I’m proud to endorse Judge Chris McCool for the Alabama Supreme Court because he’s a Christian conservative and a committed constitutionalist,” said Ainsworth. “While activist judges try to bend or distort the law to conform to their own personal beliefs, Judge McCool fairly and honestly interprets the law as it is written.”

McCool is seeking the Republican Party nomination for an open seat on the Alabama Supreme Court in the March 2024 primary election. The seat is held by Associate Justice Sarah Stewart, who recently announced that she is running for chief justice at the conclusion of her six-year term.

“I’m honored to have earned the trust and support of Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth,” said McCool. “He is a man of great integrity, and his endorsement is one I highly value. With nearly three decades of experience as a lawyer, prosecutor, and judge, I believe I am equipped to serve the great people of Alabama as a Supreme Court Justice, and I am thankful that Lt. Gov. Ainsworth believes that, as well.”
