Alabama School Choice

On March 19, Bentley signed the Alabama School Choice and Opportunity Act that authorizes public charter schools in Alabama for the first time. The law created by SB 45 and sponsored by Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh (R-Anniston) will allow up to 10 new startup charter schools per year and the unlimited conversion of existing schools into charters.

“Charter school legislation has been a legislative priority of Alabama’s business community for several years,” Canary told Yellowhammer. “Public education is where we will get the next generation of our employees and leaders.”
