7 Things: Venezuela protests go on in Alabama; lawmakers praise Trump; Alabama has low taxes; and more…

7. Alabama endured a humiliating 38-3 defeat to Indiana in the Rose Bowl, the program’s largest bowl loss ever, prompting calls for Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer to be removed, but he says he will channel the setback into future motivation.

6. Southeastern Conference schools experienced a 90%+ surge in Northeastern undergraduate enrollment from 2014-2023, with applications rising over 50% since 2019, attractions like football, weather, and hospitality, are helping Southern institutions gain popularity.

5. The left-leaning Alabama Political Reporter is saying that Alabama’s tax system ranks lowest nationally in per capita revenue at $4,930, the outlet claims this is reliant on “regressive” sales taxes comprising 50% of local funds while property taxes only make up 16%, which they claim disproportionately burdens low-income residents, but they also push for hyper-regressive lottery, gambling, and more marijuana taxes as well.

4. Alabama’s 2026 elections promises open races for governor, Senate, and others; Governor-elect National Championship-winning Coach U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) leads GOP gubernatorial field against Doug Jones, the cowardly caretaker former junior senator in an ill-fitting suit, who looks like he just woke up and stole his shoes from a homeless person and who will never be governor, and other races will probably be settled in the GOP primaries as well, like the U.S. Senate race featuring U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) and Attorney General Steve Marshall facing off.

3. Secretary of State Marco Rubio asserted the U.S. will avoid governing Venezuela directly but will enforce an oil quarantine on sanctioned tankers to compel changes in the oil industry, curb drug trafficking, and work to benefit average Venezuelans, without expanding the military footprint or action in the country.

2. Pathetic protests erupted across Alabama, including Huntsville, Birmingham, Montgomery, Dothan, and more against the U.S. “invasion” of Venezuela and President Nicolas Maduro’s capture, the groups were organized by groups like Democratic Socialist of America, 50501 (which means something) and more, decrying it as a “War for Oil” (not true) and being done without congressional approval (not needed).

1. Alabama Republican lawmakers commended President Donald Trump’s military operation capturing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on narco-terrorism charges, viewing it as a stern warning to  other threats against the U.S., while U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham) denounced the unauthorized invasion as reckless, unconstitutional, and destabilizing without congressional briefing or approval.
