7 Things: Turns out Biden can work on the border; gambling paths and roadbocks emerge; and more …

7. A new poll shows that former Alabama head football coach Nick Saban would beat U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) 42%-39% in a fictional 2026 U.S. Senate race. This will lead to more wishful thinking from Alabama Democrats as they continue to beg the former Alabama head football coach to run for Senate to beat Tuberville.

6. Silly-looking trucks may be the next of things to regulate but not because they look dumb, the “Carolina squat” is actually believed to be unsafe. The consumer magazine JD Power says the safety issues are numerous and include, a weight imbalance caused by the uneven nature of the jacked-up front end and lowered rear, worn-out tires, and braking that is not as responsive.

5. Michigan is the latest state to ask its citizens to take in illegal immigrants and, needless to say, some are not happy that this is becoming a midwestern state’s problem. The state wants the sponsors to take them in, feed them, enroll their kids in schools, and help them find employment.

4. Endorsements are being given and reasserted in Alabama’s congressional races with former President Donald Trump repeating his support to U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) saying. “Gary is an America first conservative who is fighting to secure our border, strengthen our military, and protect and defend our under-siege 2nd amendment. He will not let you down.” Also, the Freedom Caucus endorsed Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) in his First Congressional District campaign against incumbent Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) with U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) noting, “Barry understands we don’t just need new policy, we need enforcement at our southern border.”

3. The Alabama State House has already passed the gambling proposals but some changes are coming in the State Senate, and it still may not pass with an alleged 18 hard NO votes declared and a fear of easy expansion looming. State Sen. Chris Elliot (R-Baldwin County) is concerned about the ability of a simple legislative vote to allow more casinos in places like Baldwin County with its beaches and 8.5 million visitors making it a good target.

2. The fear of gambling expansion is not only being expressed by opponents of the legislation currently being debated but State Rep. Chris Blackshear (R-Phenix City) also opposes gambling expansion into his district and he is the House sponsor of the legislation. Blackshear has made it clear that he did not want casinos in his district further handing opponents of the measure ammunition and leading to questions about how good this proposal actually is.

1. President Joe Biden is now considering taking action on the border with Mexico and this signifies a pretty big shift from the “the border is secure” rhetoric of the last three years and the “I can’t do anything” rhetoric of the last month. The border, obviously, was not secure and Biden could do things at the border to make it more secure, like undoing his first few days of his presidency where he dismantled the Trump-era border policies.
