7. Extreme weather could impact Alabama
- With municipal election day on Tuesday, Alabama could see severe weather enter the state thanks to two tropical storms that could be hurricanes by the time they make landfall, which is currently expected to be in Louisiana and Texas.
- The National Weather Service has lessened the predicted storm surge for the state of Alabama, but the storms are still in the Gulf of Mexico so there could be a change in the path for the hurricanes as they interact with the warm water and potentially each other, leading to an unpredictable week of weather for Alabama
6. House Democrats (some of them) vote to “save” the post office
- The U.S. House of Representatives has officially voted to reverse recent changes that the U.S. Postal Service made in operations. After President Donald Trump urged representatives to vote no, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said to ignore Trump “because it is all designed to suppress the vote.”
- The legislation passed in a 257-150 vote, but the bill is likely to stall in the U.S. Senate. The White House has already said that Trump will veto the bill, as this package also includes $25 billion for the Postal Service.
5. Plasma treatment approved
- President Donald Trump has announced the emergency authorization of a plasma treatment for coronavirus patients, saying the treatment is “a breakthrough.” This decision will make the treatment more accessible.
- With this announcement, the media and their Democrats have declared this treatment method to be “unproven” and a parade of scientists on cable news said they found it “outrageous.” The decision to allow doctors this option to treat patients with the coronavirus was declared to be agenerally terrible development.
4. No positive cases for Auburn football
- For the second round of testing in a row, the Auburn football team has had no coronavirus cases, according to Auburn football coach Gus Malzahn, who added that they were “encouraged” but the data.
- Previously, the program had experienced a small outbreak of coronavirus cases, but this shows more promise for the program and for football to continue this fall.
3. The University of Alabama has seen an increase in coronavirus
- The president of the University of Alabama, Stuart Bell, posted a letter to students on the university’s website about “an unacceptable rise” in coronavirus cases on campus, adding that “this trend is a real threat to our ability to complete the semester on campus.”
- There have continued to be issues with busy bars and restaurants, so Bell did say that the campus police and Tuscaloosa police will be “partnering to monitor bars, restaurants and off-campus residences where the city’s COVID-19 ordinances and UA guidelines are not being followed.”
2. Biden could win Alabama?
- While on Alabama Public Television’s “Capitol Journal,” State Representative Chris England (D-Tuscaloosa) discussed U.S. Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) and former Vice President Joe Biden’s chances in the general election in Alabama.
- England explained that Biden could “absolutely” win Alabama based on the message of “unity over division” that Jones and Biden’s campaign have been running on. England went on to point out former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville’s lack of a “track record of any sort of governmental success or experience.”
1. Biden’s coronavirus ideas are already being implemented by Trump
- With most things in American politics today, if the President of the United States is for it, the media and their Democrats are against it. The exception seems to be President Trump’s coronavirus response plan, which Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden seemed to be echoing while pretending it was his own plan.
- No stranger to plagiarism allegations, Biden’s plan mirrors what Trump is already doing while ignoring the success of that plan and includes copy-cat plans like shoring up the supply-chain and more testing. The only real difference Biden is offering up is a mask mandate and another shutdown.
