7 Things: Another trade win for Trump; Maxwell immunity angers Alabama’s liberal activists; and more …

7. Democratic pastor and former State Rep. Will Boyd Jr. announced his candidacy for Alabama governor in the 2026 election; he has a list of multiple beatings in races already (Fifth Congressional District in 2016, lieutenant governor in 2018, and U.S. Senate in 2022).

6. The Justice Department’s Operation Grayskull, launched in 2020, led to the dismantling of four dark web child abuse websites with over 120,000 members and millions of files, resulting in the conviction of at least 18 individuals across the U.S.; among those are Madison, Ala.’s William Spearman, for operating and using these sites to share unlawful sexually exploitative images of children.

5. Texas Republicans plan aggressive redistricting to gain House seats and protect their majority, while California Democrats consider countermeasures, but even The New York Times notes that Democrats don’t have room for countermeasures because they have already gerrymandered a good number of seats in Congress across the United States.

4. Federal funding issues for education and research continue to be an issue as U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) and 13 colleagues pressed the White House to release delayed health research funds; meanwhile the Department of Education has unfrozen $68 million for Alabama that was withheld while the Trump administration reviewed the funds.

3. Alabama liberal activists have too much money and spent some to erect a billboard on Red Mountain Expressway in Birmingham questioning President Trump’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein, despite none of them actually believing President Donald Trump engaged in any illicit activities with minors.

2. After the Department of Justice sent Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche to meet with Ghislaine Maxwell, she obtained limited immunity for more information about Jeffrey Epstein’s issues and allies. U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) is one of many Republicans urging the Trump administration to release more information on Epstein as the media continues to use the issue to distract from Trump successes.

1. President Donald Trump and the European Union, led by European Commission President Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen, agreed to a deal that includes $600 billion in EU investments in U.S. energy and defense purchases; 15% tariffs on EU goods and U.S. cars, pharmaceuticals, and semiconductors; U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs stay at 50% for now but could come down; averting a trade war and stabilizing Transatlantic relations.
