7 Things: Air Force has busy weekend; Auburn Black Student Union tests administration; and more …

7. Super Bowl was very good, but Rihanna was very bad

  • Alabama’s Jalen Hurts, who had three rushing TDs already, came up short but had the ball in his hands in the final moments but was unable to make the magic happen and his Philadelphia Eagles came up short. The Kansas City Cheifs won 38-35 with Patrick Mahomes on a bad ankle and with a field goal with 8 seconds left.
  • Rihanna gave a listless solo performance on a platform where she lip-synched while cosplaying as Andy Reid with guys in white dancing around her. It was very “meh” but people will tell you it was amazing, they are lying. Positive note: The U.S. military did not shoot her down.

6. Work to put out long-running landfill fire progressing

  • The landfill fire in Moody continues to burn, and concerns about the impact it is having on the surrounding areas will continue as well. The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) is still taking heat for their handling of the case and they have responded.
  • ADEM Director Lance LeFleur appears to be acknowledging that they could have handled this better, “(it) exposed shortcomings in the ability and authority of state and local governments to respond to situations that are outside the scope of regulated activities but nonetheless pose risks to the public. We are in talks with representatives of county governments and other agencies about ways to close these gaps”.

5. What is happening at Prattville High School?

  • One Alabama school is trying its hardest to make the argument for “Real school choice” in Alabama by continuously finding itself in the news for various issues involving teachers, students, sex, drugs, and dogs.
  • A teacher asked students their sex, gender identity, and more. A student was involved in a sex act in a classroom and no one told the parents. And an administrator blocked drug dogs from parts of a search on campus. Might be time to shut down this school until we find out what is going on.

4. Councilman’s alleged crimes continue to come to light; attorney says Keith is victim

  • After 30-plus allegations of shoplifting have come to light regarding Huntsville City Councilman Devyn Keith, and mobs of online supporters suggested everyone but he is responsible, it is becoming clear this was initial and consistent behavior by the politician.
  • Keith’s attorney is now trying to suggest that Keith is the victim of the police. “The illegal arrest, search and seizure or detention took place during a time when the defendant was not advised of his/her constitutional rights pursuant to Miranda V. Arizona.” The argument against “self-incrimination” doesn’t really scream “innocent.”

3. Illegal immigrants got IDs in Decatur

  • Three people were arrested in Decatur over the weekend for creating fake IDs for illegal immigrants. They weren’t just creating the IDs, though, they were also trafficking in stolen identities.
  • Estela Pablo (32), Agustin Tzep-Pablo (27), and Miguel Pablo Guitierrez (43), all living in Decatur, were arrested after a lengthy investigation by the Decatur Police Department, with the assistance of the U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S. Social Security Administration.

2. Racist student group at Auburn receives little scrutiny

  • A very unclever group of students, known as the Black Student Union at Auburn University, has been exposed as unfunny racists after an embarrassing list of “slurs” for white people was released that allegedly was circulated among the group by someone inside it.
  • Conservative student group Turning Point USA was sent the list from a “whistleblower” and it includes 250 nicknames for white students. Auburn did not see protests or administrators leading students in attempts to create racial healing in this moment, but they did promise to do something. The statement released reads, “This matter will be treated in the same manner with which any issue of discrimination or harassment is addressed.” It most certainly will not.

1. U.S. military jets making short work of something

  • Some say balloons, some claim UFOS, and some say it could be something else. What is most likely is that the public is now aware that China is using these devices to “spy” on the United States of America so the government is being forced to take action.
  • Some in the Biden administration seem to believe that this is a big embarrassment to China that we have shot down four of their entities in eight days. That seems unlikely, with others suggesting China would send more balloons to embarrass President Joe Biden.
