45 undocumented immigrants on ICE hold in Madison County Jail

A recent report has revealed that 45 undocumented immigrants are currently on hold in the Madison County Jail, awaiting potential deportation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). These individuals constitute roughly 4% of the jail’s population, which houses approximately 1,200 inmates.

According to WAFF, the detainees face charges ranging from murder and assault to drug trafficking and human trafficking. Among the inmates are Michel Gedeon, charged with murder; Salvador Rodriguez, charged with drug trafficking; Lestor Cruz, charged with murder and assault; and Gilmar Huinac, facing charges of human trafficking and attempting to meet a minor for sex.

ICE holds are a legal measure where local law enforcement agencies detain undocumented individuals after identifying them through criminal charges. These holds remain in place until the individuals either post bond or go to trial. If bond is made, ICE typically initiates deportation proceedings immediately. Should the detainee be sentenced and serve time, deportation follows the completion of their prison term.

Recent developments indicate that the current federal administration has increased ICE enforcement efforts in Madison County. Under the previous administration, only a fraction of detained undocumented individuals were taken into ICE custody. However, under the current administration, all detainees held on ICE warrants are reportedly being processed.

Madison County law enforcement officials emphasize the seriousness of the charges faced by the inmates and maintain that they will be dealt with according to the law.
