3 must-watch games this weekend beyond Alabama and Auburn

(@TexasFootball/X)

It’s another week on the college football calendar, and while it may not be quite the incredible slate that last week brought including from the teams in this very state, there are still absolutely some terrific matchups.

While the Auburn Tigers will be on a bye to prepare to host Georgia next week, the Alabama Crimson Tide has a chance to avenge last season’s defeat against Vanderbilt by hosting the No. 16 ranked Commodores at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Outside the state and around the conference as well as nation as a whole though, there are some absolute must watch showdowns that you simply must be paying attention to. Here are the three biggest:

#9 Texas @ Florida

2:30 p.m. CST

The Gators and head coach Billy Napier are absolutely desperate for a big win, with Napier potentially needing one to save his own job. To say the start of Arch Manning’s season for the Longhorns has been a bit of a letdown would be an understatement, however Manning will have a chance again in front of a national audience to show he’s improved since his ugly game at Ohio State back in week one.

Outside of the ranked game in Tuscaloosa, this looks like the marquee SEC game of the week in what will be an insane environment in The Swamp.

#3 Miami @ #18 Florida State

6:30 p.m. CST

The Hurricanes have quietly established themselves as a legitimate national title contender led by a fearsome pass rush and former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck. As for the Seminoles, they will try to bounce back from last week’s upset at the hands of Virginia and get right back into the thick of the race both in the ACC and for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

This one could go a long way towards determining who is playing in the conference title game, not to mention finding out whether or not Florida State’s win over Alabama in week one was some kind of fluke.

Mississippi State @ #6 Texas A&M

6:30 p.m. CST

Normally, this wouldn’t be a great game on the calendar. Had the Bulldogs actually pulled it out last week against Tennessee in what was an all-time thriller, they would likely be ranked and would also be 5-0. Mississippi State is clearly several notches better than they’ve been, and this is a really good test for an Aggies team who look like a prime contender both in the SEC and potentially even the College Football Playoff.

If Texas A&M takes care of business and wins by a few scores, it would be an impressive statement victory to show this team is very much for real.
