The bowls, Super and otherwise, are over with and so is National Signing Day, which means it’s time to turn our attention to the NFL Draft.
The next step toward the annual player pick-em is, of course, the NFL Combine, which pits the best of college football in competitive workouts in front of NFL coaches and scouts in Indianapolis from Feb. 17-23.
Alabama has 11 players headed to the Combine, tied for the second-most players with Louisville and one behind Florida, who is sending 12. The Crimson Tide sent 12 players to the Combine last year.
Quarterback Blake Sims, safety Landon Collins and wide receiver Amari Cooper headline the group from Alabama that includes fullback Jalston Fowler, running back T.J. Yeldon, wide receivers Christion Jones and DeAndrew White, offensive linemen Arie Kouandjio and Austin Shepherd, and linebackers Xzavier Dickson and Trey DePriest.
Auburn has seven players headed to Lucas Oil Stadium including cornerback Nick Marshall — although he was invited as a quarterback — wide receiver Sammie Coates, running back Cameron Artis-Payne, center Reese Dismukes, defensive tackles Gabe Wright and Angelo Blackson, and safety Jermaine Whitehead.
In addition to players from Alabama and Auburn, for the first time, South Alabama is sending players to the Combine with tight end Wes Saxton and quarterback Brandon Bridge joining the 14 other passers at the organized workout. UAB is also sending one player, wide receiver J.J. Nelson, and Samford will be represented by safety Jaquiski Tartt.
Every workout from the 40-yard dash to the high jump from the NFL Combine airs will be aired live on the NFL Network.
