GREENSBORO, Ala. — Alabama State Rep. Ralph Howard (D-Greensboro) was arrested earlier this week for shooting out the tires of his wife’s car during a domestic dispute, according to a report by the Sumter County Record-Journal.
He made bond after spending Sunday night in the Hale County Jail and is being charged with harassment, domestic violence and reckless endangerment, according to the paper.
As al.com’s Madison Underwood notes, this is far from Rep. Howard’s first run in with the law.
Prior to being elected in 2005, Howard allegedly shot a man in the thigh. However, the resulting assault charges were dismissed after his accuser did not show up for court.
In 2013, he was arrested for driving under the influence, with a blood alcohol level roughly three times the legal limit.
In 2014, he was charged with driving without insurance, and with an expired tag and revoked license. Those charges were later dismissed, as well.
Howard was first elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in a 2005 special election. He won his first full four-year term in 2006 without opposition. In 2010 and 2014 he faced multiple challengers in the Democratic primary, but was re-elected each time. His legislative district includes portions of Hale, Marengo, Perry and Bibb counties.
