If the only thing you think about when you hear the words “all the way” is whether it’s actually a good idea to put mushrooms on hash browns (I’m a scattered, covered and chunked guy myself), the latest news coming out of Waffle House HQ is definitely for you.

The restaurant chain announced on Monday that it will be hosting romantic Valentine’s Day dinners by candlelight at select locations all across Alabama.

Waffle House restaurants in Alabaster, Albertville, Attalla, Cullman, Decatur, Madison, Troy and Tuscaloosa are all participating, and demand is so high reservations are required to reserve a spot. (Contact information for each location can be found here)

For folks who cannot quite wrap their heads around Waffle House being such a Valentine’s Day hot spot, one Southern culinary writer explained in the 1990s just how much of a cultural icon Waffle House has become in the South:

The Waffle House is everywhere in the South. It has inspired country songs, comedy routines, loving editorials, a scene in the movie Tin Cup, and even web sites and Internet newsgroups that breathlessly post late-breaking developments. With more than 1700 locations in 25 states, as far north as Ohio and as far west as Arizona, Waffle House is cherished by thousands of diners. Regular customers speak of its employees, its customs, and its food with near reverence. Touring musicians have been known to eat five meals a week there. Yet the Waffle House is so pervasive, it is invisible. It does not advertise; it hides in plain sight.

Alabamians have a particular affinity for Waffle House, so it should come as no surprise that Yellowhammer State residents want to share the food they love with the one they love.
