HOMEWOOD, Ala. — Homewood High School senior Tucker Wilson felt confident when he left the classroom where he took the ACT in April, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t pleasantly surprised when he got his score back from the testing agency this summer.
Wilson had earned a 36—a perfect score.
On the ACT students are tested on English, Math, Reading Comprehension, and Science. Each section receives its own score of 1-36, but a composite score is what most colleges consider during the admissions process.
Wilson, a alto saxophone player who serves as woodwind captain of the Patriot Marching Band, told the Homewood Star he wants to study either computer or chemical engineering.
With scores like those he earned on the ACT, Wilson should have little problem getting into the school of his choice, but he has a few universities in mind: Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, the University of Virginia and Auburn.
The young man also serves as a Patriot Pride ambassador, on the Bell Center Youth Alliance, is a member of the cross-country team, and is an AP Scholar with Distinction for making the top score of 5 on all five AP exams he took as a sophomore and junior.
Wilson said Homewood has been the perfect place for him to cultivate his academic, athletic, and even musical prowess.
“That’s what I love about Homewood,” he said. “It’s the only place where I think I can do it all.”
