The World Games 2022 on Wednesday announced that Wind Creek Hospitality, the Poarch Band of Creek Indians’ gaming authority, had been chosen as its official resort and casino partner.
The international sports competition next year will be hosted in Birmingham July 7-17.
Nick Sellers, CEO of The World Games 2022, expressed excitement over the partnership’s announcement and indicated that it would serve to enhance event experience.
“We take great pride in announcing this meaningful partnership with Wind Creek Hospitality,” said Sellers. “There are just a little more than 200 days before the Opening Ceremony, and this announcement shows we continue building positive momentum toward delivering a world-class event that will showcase Birmingham and Alabama to visitors from around the globe.”
According to The World Games 2022, the competitions are expected to draw 500,000 spectators and 3,600 athletes from over 100 countries to Birmingham. Next year’s games have been labeled as the “biggest sports party” in the Southeastern United States since it was last hosted in Atlanta during the 1996 Summer Olympics.
Wind Creek Hospitality CEO and president Jay Dorris noted the organization’s commitment to actively engaging in Alabama communities.
“We want Wind Creek to be part of our communities and the events that make them special,” advised Dorris. “The World Games 2022 is big for Alabama and throughout the event there will be many winning moments that we look forward to seeing as they take place.”
