Every Tuesday right here you can read The Auburn Corner, where we’ll get into a different topic on the Auburn Tigers, break down the previous game, preview the upcoming game, and everything in between.
In this week’s edition, the first regular season of the Hugh Freeze era is over. It concludes with a 6-6 record and back to back losses including a heart breaking, gut wrenching Iron Bowl loss. Where does Hugh Freeze take the program from here entering his second offseason as Auburn head coach?
If there was always one thing to hang your hat on as an Tiger fan, no matter how things looked on the field this season, it’s the fact that Freeze built momentum on the recruiting trail in his first offseason that Auburn had not seen in a very long time.

And while there were some flashes such as the three game SEC win streak, overall, the product on the field was overall just not good enough for Auburn this season.
So moving forward for Hugh Freeze, the long and short of it is: recruit, recruit, recruit.
It’s a new era in college football as well. Just this week, Freeze talked about the challenges the transfer portal presents and how he does not know at this point how many of his players he will be having to replace.
“I have no idea exactly how the makeup of the 85 will look. Do we have to replace 22? Do we have to replace 32. I think that’s become the biggest challenge for the coaches, is how to manage the 85,” Freeze said.
Auburn of course, was dealing with an almost entirely transfer portal constructed roster this season, and now Freeze will have to blend transfer portal talent along with players he has traditionally recruited.
Hugh Freeze would be the first to tell you that what Auburn put on the field this season was not good enough. But fans can hold out hope and trust the process moving forward.
