With an impending move to a 12-team playoff next year, particularly given how this season of college football has gone, there’s been a ton of hypothetical talk over what a 12-team race would look like at this moment with so many good teams.
2023 feels particularly unique. It’s as good of an endorsement for a 12-team playoff as anything. Meaning, there are more teams “alive” with a chance to still qualify for the CFP, entering conference championship week than we’ve probably ever seen.
Obviously, things will change. Given that there are so many critical games this week, here’s a look at what a 12-team playoff would look like right now entering the final week:

Recall that the first round of the 12-team playoff matchups will be played on campus. That means that as of now, Alabama would be hosting a playoff game in Bryant-Denny Stadium against an SEC foe, the Missouri Tigers.
Meanwhile, Ole Miss would have a trip to Columbus to take on Ohio State after the Buckeyes fell to 6th following their loss to Michigan this past weekend.
Although Alabama has an opportunity to climb the ranks by defeating Georgia in the SEC Championship — they’ll likely need help in order to qualify for the final edition of the four team College Football Playoff.
