CONCORD, North Carolina — Former Auburn standout and Heisman winner Cam Newton is used to having all eyes on him when he takes the field. The 6’5 athlete is a dominating presence on the football field whose ability to zip a pass is only exceeded by his running skills. But it isn’t only for his work on the field that he is becoming beloved by his new hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, where the Panthers play.
Halloween is the favorite holiday of 10-year-old North Carolinian Elijah Hughes, but sadly, because of his battle with a rare form of cancer his doctors fear he might not make it to October 31st.
Elijah’s community gathered Friday night to give him the Halloween party of a lifetime. And who should show up, but Cam Newton?

Having heard about the party, Newton drove an hour from his home, providing brownies and an ice cream truck for attendees.
“As a mom it absolutely melts your heart,” said Elijah’ mom, Becky Hughes. “It brings tears to my eyes.”
“This has been the hardest battle our family has ever had to go through,” she said.
