Alabama Sec. of State Wes Allen is kicking off his campaign with a message that he is the right person to be the state’s next Lieutenant Governor with a “track record” of good judgement and conservative principles.
Last week, Allen formally announced his campaign for Lt. Governor of Alabama in 2026. The current Lt. Governor, Will Ainsworth, is term limited to the position and unable to seek another term.
Allen discussed why he decided to run during a recent appearance on the Alabama Policy Institute’s “AP Insights” podcast.
“We’re called to be salt and light,” Allen said. “That’s right as believers, and we want to make sure we make a good impact on our communities. That’s what kind of drives me. I want to fix things, build stuff… Sometimes conservatives get this bad rap, we just want to tear things up and blow things up. That’s not the case. You know, we want to build things. We want things to be better, right? And at the end of the day, I think that’s what drives me. I want good things to come out of our government. So that’s why I get up and go to work every day.”
Allen was elected as Alabama Secretary of State in 2022. Before that he served as the Pike County Probate Judge and then was elected as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives.
“As a kid that grew up on an end of a dirt road, to be where I’m at now, it’s really not something that I could have planned out, because I didn’t really think about public service or being in elected office,” he said. “But you know, God’s sovereign plan and will for our lives, and we just got to be open to it, to pray for wisdom and discernment that we can recognize the open doors and closed doors in our lives.”

Allen said he wants to now take that experience to the Lt. Governor’s office.
“I’m just so humbled that I’m in this position as Secretary of State now representing 5 million of the finest people in this country, and I want to take that local experience from the probate judge’s office, those same values that I’ve served with in the State House, same values I’m serving with now in the capital…to the Lieutenant Governor seat, because I think that’s an important role for our state. You can really give voice to a lot of different issues and lead. And I think our experience just speaks for itself. Our track record is pretty clear, and I think we’re in a good position looking forward to this campaign as we as we move ahead.”
