Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen is sounding the election integrity alarm after releasing new details last week showing where noncitizens were illegally registered to vote — and even where illegal ballots were cast.
Allen announced last week that his office had identified 186 noncitizens illegally registered to vote in Alabama, including 25 individuals who unlawfully voted in prior elections.
On Monday, his office released a county-by-county breakdown outlining exactly where the violations occurred.
The data shows illegal registrations were spread across 36 counties, with the highest totals found in Jefferson County (25), Madison County (21), Mobile County (19), and Baldwin County (14). Other counties with notable numbers included Tuscaloosa (9), Montgomery (8), and Lee, Marshall, and Morgan counties (7 each).
Of extreme concern, Allen confirmed that 25 noncitizens actually cast ballots, in direct violation of Alabama law.
Counties where illegal voting occurred include Baldwin (3), Montgomery (3), Jefferson (2), Lee (2), Colbert (2), and several others with one illegal vote each.
“I have been clear that our elections should be decided by American citizens and only American citizens,” Allen said in a statement.
“Through a cooperative effort with the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, my office used the federal SAVE database to identify the names of people who are not American citizens but who registered to vote and, in some cases, cast ballots in our elections. I will not tolerate this.”
Allen said that the findings are the result of proactive enforcement, not chance.
His office worked directly with federal authorities to verify citizenship status using the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database.
Secretary Allen said that all cases are being referred to local, state, and federal law enforcement for review and potential prosecution.
