Wes Allen predicts Alabama Democrat candidate arrested for voter fraud will serve jail time

Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen believes that Terry Andrew Heflin, a Democrat running for District 5 of the Clay County Commission, will be convicted and serve jail time for voter fraud.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced the arrest of Heflin last week. The candidate was charged with 7 counts of unlawful use of absentee ballots for allegedly falsifying applications to vote absentee for multiple people and then used those people’s names to vote for himself by absentee ballot.

“I believe that Attorney General Steve Marshall was serious about this, the seven counts that he was indicted on,” Allen said recently on WVNN, “and we’ve been serious since day one about election integrity. And as you know, when we first got the allegations, we quickly got the case together, forwarded it on to Steve Marshall, and these are felony provisions in this law. And so I fully expect this guy has been charged once he’s found guilty and that he will serve.”

Each count of unlawful use of an absentee ballot is a Class C felony punishable by 1 year and 1 day to 10 years in prison. Allen has also been working to make sure illegal immigrants are unable to register to vote in Alabama.

“We are pushing like minded Republican secretaries of state and around the country and we are pushing extremely hard to make changes to this,” he explained. “And you know, it is a weaponization, mobilization, of the entire federal apparatus to do voter registration, and I don’t think it is the place of the federal government to be involved with voter registration, that is a state issue. It should be left to the states to administer our voter registration.”

Allen said he’s continuing to work to make sure Alabama’s elections are secure.

“We’ve got things in this state that we are we are pushing on and getting ready for the November 5 general election to make sure that our elections, our voter file maintenance, our voter rolls are clean and accurate and we are pushing every single day.”
