Watch: Katie Britt pauses hearing to congratulate Alabama, UConn basketball – ‘I’ll never miss an opportunity to say Roll Tide’

U.S. Senator Katie Britt doesn’t hide the fact that she is a proud graduate of the University of Alabama. On Wednesday during a Senate hearing, Britt made sure to mention Alabama’s recent improbable run to the Final Four for the first time in school history.

Britt took a moment to also congratulate Connecticut’s U.S. Senator Chris Murphy on UConn’s championship triumph, winning back-to-back titles and defeating the Crimson Tide in the semifinal.

“I need to give you a public congratulations,” Britt said to Murphy. “Our two teams faced off in the Final Four. I am incredibly proud of the Crimson Tide and all of the players for the positive impact they made on the tournament and had for the state.”

She went on to talk about some of the players who had an impact on the Tide’s run including Grant Nelson, Nick Pringle, and Mark Sears.

“At the end of the day, y’all [UConn] came out victorious not only in the Final Four but in the tournament for the second year in a row, so pretty incredible. While I’ll never miss an opportunity to say Roll Tide, I have to tip my hat, say my congratulations and Go Huskies,” Britt said.

Murphy joked back that while Alabama put up the best fight that anyone had against the Huskies in two years, it was still a 14-point UConn victory.

“We’ll be back! We’ll be back next year,” Britt concluded.
