The Auburn Tigers dropped their game on Saturday night in Jordan-Hare to the Georgia Bulldogs, putting their season and potentially the status of the future of their head coach in doubt during what was an ugly evening on The Plains.
In a lone bright spot however, the Tigers held a jersey retirement ceremony for legendary quarterback and 2010 Heisman winner, not to mention national champion, Cam Newton. During a ceremony at halftime, Newton got to see his jersey raised into the rafters of Jordan-Hare Stadium and earn his flowers from the Auburn faithful.
Newton’s 2010 season was one of the best not just at Auburn, but in the history of college football. He has said nothing but positive things about his time playing for the Tigers, and the Auburn family has kept welcoming him back with open arms.
“There were so many different things that makes this beautiful community of Auburn, something that always will feel like home,” Newton said before the ceremony. “And I remind people I gave Auburn 365 days of enjoyment, but Auburn gave me a lifetime of appreciation. Sounds like a fair deal to me.”
